Installing Tools in a Live Tooling Lathe

To illustrate the tool installation process, consider the setup for an end milling cutter with a diameter of 16 mm:

1. Begin by selecting an ER32 specification tool handle, which is commonly used due to its versatility and range of applications.
2. Choose the ER32 15-16 spring collet, which is designed to securely grip the tool.
3. Loosen the upper sleeve of the tool handle and screw in the ER32 15-16 spring collet until it is firmly in place.
4. Install the assembled upper sleeve onto the tool handle.
5. Insert the 16 mm diameter end mill into the collet and tighten it using the appropriate CNC Lathe wrench.
6. Select the lathe tool holder that matches the machine tool spindle and mount the assembled tool onto the lathe.
7. On the machine tool, select either manual or handwheel gear.
8. While holding the lower part of the tool handle, align the keyway on the tool handle with the keyway on the spindle. Press the air switch button to engage the tool, and release the button once the tool is securely in place.

Before embarking on CNC programming, familiarize yourself with the editing and modifying keys on the keyboard. The keys used for editing include PROG, CAN, ALTER, INSERT, DELETE, CUSTM/GR, SHIFT, and others.

Protecting Your Program

To safeguard your CNC program, use the PROGRAM PROTECT function. This prevents unauthorized changes to the program. A gear position setting of ‘0’ indicates no protection, while ‘1’ signifies that the program is secure.

Searching for Programs

1. Select EDIT mode status.
2. Press the PROGRAM button to access the program interface.
3. Enter O * * * (the program number) in the input field and use the up or down arrow keys to display the program content.

Inputting Programs

1. In EDIT mode, press PROGRAM to enter the program interface.
2. Create a new program name with a four-digit identifier, like O0001, and press INSERT.
3. Press EOB to display a semicolon ‘;’, which in Fanuc system programming denotes the end of a statement.
4. Input command codes and corresponding numbers, using the SHIFT key to toggle between letters.

Modifying Programs

If a mistake is made during input:

1. Use the CAN key to delete the incorrect entry from right to left.
2. To amend content already entered into the program, move the cursor to the desired location. You can either delete the incorrect entry with DELETE and re-enter the correct one, or directly overwrite it using the ALTER key.
